CREATION · ATTENTION · EXPERIMENT

Eszenyi-Farkas Anette

Artist · Level 1 Olympic Archery Coach · Independent Creator

I work at the intersections of music, writing, visual culture, games and symbolic systems. I am interested in the process by which an idea takes on a working form: as an image, a story, a game, an object or an experience.

I do not see these fields as separate paths. The same curiosity, attention and search for structure runs through all of them.

Projects

Three current fields of work, each with a distinct form and audience.

01 / DIGITAL

AIANDGRACE

Games · Mythology · Digital Storytelling

AIANDGRACE is an independent digital creative project bringing together games, mythological worlds, visual storytelling and interactive systems. Technology is not an end in itself here, but a creative tool. Experimentation is part of the process: building prototypes, game mechanics, visual and narrative systems, testing them and developing them further. The current AIANDGRACE world includes browser-based games and the Völva project.

02 / SYMBOLIC

ELETIE

Card Traditions · Symbolic Systems · Self-Reflection

ELETIE is an independent creative and development project exploring historical card traditions, symbolic systems and their contemporary possibilities of interpretation. Its aim is to create intelligent and aesthetically considered forms that leave space for association, self-reflection and personal interpretation.

Raven Valley Archery

Archery · Cultural Experiences · Hungary

I am a Level 1 Olympic archery coach with a long-standing background in traditional archery. Raven Valley Archery brings together archery, the natural environment and cultural experience. For me, archery is at once technique, attention, bodily awareness, rhythm and precision of presence.

An endless path

Experimentation is my working method: I create something, observe it, take it apart, rearrange it, then build it further. The same curiosity appears in my music, writing, visual work, games and archery.

I do not feel that every idea needs to become a finished “product”. I see creative work as an endless path on which I try to move ever closer to what is essential.

I practise Dzogchen and Subud.

Creative background

My foundation is in the arts.

My musical path began at the age of six on the stage of the Liszt Academy, and continued for more than two decades as a professional singer and voice teacher. I also write fiction, poetry and song lyrics. I am a member of Artisjus and EJI.

Over time, performance and writing were joined by visual work, digital projects, game development and the creation of independent creative systems.

For me, the medium is secondary. What interests me far more is the moment when something initially without form begins to reveal a structure and eventually takes on a life of its own.

Painting · Music · Poetry

Three fragments from different forms of the same creative practice.

Painting
Tenger – Jel – Út, abstract painting by Eszenyi-Farkas Anette.

Sea – Sign – Path

Acrylic and mixed media on canvas · 138 × 93.5 cm including frame

In painting, I am drawn to spontaneous improvisation. I do not begin with a predetermined image; instead, I transfer onto the canvas the patterns of feeling and perception that arise beyond deliberate thought in a particular moment. I often work to the music of Bach, allowing rhythm, movement and paint to dissolve into one another while I enter the same state of unselfconscious absorption. It is the freedom and beauty of that state that draws me most deeply.

Music

Völva

In music, too, I am interested in atmosphere, inner imagery and improvisational thought. Völva is a musical fragment created for the AIANDGRACE world of the same name. It begins with the atmosphere of Norse mythology, but it is not a reconstruction. It is a musical space of its own.

Poetry

Bach on a Winter Evening

Hungarian original A tél lebegett a zongora fekete-fehér vizén, s a hang hulláma lassan az est fölé hajolt, mint fáradt, tiszta fény a dérlepte kerteken. S ekkor Isten lépett elő szelíd mosollyal a titkos hangjegyek közül; mint áprilisban, mikor szirmot bont a lét, s színes lelkét az égbe oldja.
English translation Winter hovered on the piano’s black-and-white waters,
and the wave of sound slowly arched above the evening,
like weary, clear light across frost-covered gardens.
Then God stepped forth with a gentle smile
from among the secret notes; as in April,
when being unfurls its petals
and dissolves its many-coloured soul into the sky.
